The house we are living in now needs a lot of work. Soon we are going to paint some of the rooms, well most of the rooms. Right now I am love with the “Beach Cottage” look. I love some of the whitewashed and sanded back items of furniture……but not all. I don’t want the house to look as if it is completely full of junk furniture. I am planning to paint our main bedroom in white, with just a hint of cream for warmth. Right now it is a crappy yellow/brown colour. YUK!
I have been collecting gorgeous pieces of heart art for a few years now ( they are all red) and can’t wait to get them on the wall……………after the painting has been done. I have decided to continue the heart theme by making a bunch of fabric hearts and hanging them all on a ribbon so they cascade from the ceiling, nearly to the floor.( We have high ceilings in this old house) I want them to look a bit funky, not precious with lace and stuff all over them. So this morning I got out my (small) stash and checked out what fabrics I had available.
I ended up deciding on using a black white and red theme. I have a lot of black and white fabrics that I love, I found some white silk ( just a little) and some see through creapy white and some red fabric and I also thought I wanted to use some tea dyed Muslin.
Tomorrow I will site at the trusty sewing machine and sew the little hearts and words on to the fronts of the hearts. Then at the playday which has now changed to Monday, I will be able to stuff them or maybe embellish them with beads.
Seeing we are sooo near to the beach and it has heaps of driftwood, I want to get down there and make some driftwood cascading hangings also.
There is a shop in Moffat Beach on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, called Bliss. I used to call in there and enviously covert the whitewashed driftwood hangers they sold, however at $40 each , I just couldn’t bring myself to buy one. Hell…………….here in Nz driftwood is free, fishing line also comes free from Mr Di’s fishing tackle box and then all I need is a drill and a little thinned down gesso to white wash them with.
Then I will tackle the shells……..once again they are never ending on “OUR” beach LOL
Oh well I am getting way off track. As you will see I changed them all and added words on them. I gotta get the sewing machine out and start sewing these babies up, hope they look better after they are done LOL. I will add more pics as soon as the hearts are finished.

My mum comes to stay quite often now. She says she comes for inspiration ..LOL Here she is with my beads and sequins beading a heart she has quilted. I am so into hearts and now she is too. She has decided to redecorate her bedroom, so is making all new things to go in there.
She was enjoying doing something different as she really doesn’t bead much….however she is a great quilter. She is very different to me in that she works in a really traditional style while I am more comtemporary.
Its is great to be home and so close to Mum. She lives 10 minutes away by car. After all these years living in Australia it is great to be back with my family.
