The photos above are of a canvas that I made for my MUMs room in our new home. She adores Butterflies. So I covered a canvas in patterned tissue, and proceeded to cut butterflies out of scrapbooking paper. When the tissue was dry , I then glued the butterflies on to the canvas. She loves it. I also covered the letters LOVE with scrapbooking paper and hung them next to the picture.

Today I want to talk about “playdays”, and how important it is to meet up with like-minded arty people to play. I have just been invited to take part in a Playday coming up soon with a bunch of “interesting ” people. I am really excited as its been ages since I have had this kind of interaction. In Australia I just couldn’t find people who wanted to do this.
However, here in New Zealand, there are many funky people who value their creativity and know how important it is to “play”. I will be thrilled to offer my home as the next venue and hope the group will take it in turns and soon we will have a regular meeting happening.
It really doesn’t matter what media you work with. Right now I am more into art journaling, however, I would be happy to just learn some new techniques working with fabric, or altering, or anything else.
The best thing about these days are that you come home all excited and ready to continue creating……………..it sort of gives you motivation and drive.
When I was living in Zilzie, in Australia, I hosted an “Art Retreat” for those of us who were teaching. It was so much fun and everyone came ready to teach the rest of us. Ann Maulin taught us how to bead crochet, Pearl Moon taught us how to make polymer faces using molds. Annie Hesse taught how to make a simple twisted beaded bracelet, I cooked and Jill Maas made us all laugh. They stayed for a couple days and much wine was drunk, much talking and laughing was done and of course the sharing of art was so incredible.Boy I was tired at the end of it but so at peace.
Playday’s can be for a few hours or a whole day, and for this one we have a few surprises up our sleeves.LOL
Why don’t you invite a few arty friends for a playday and see how much fun you have. I would love to hear about your playdays or any tips you have for a playday. Please leave a comment below.
The next pictures are of a canvas that I made recently.
